Roo begins to resent her father's relationship with Ailsa Hogan out of loyalty to her late mother, Martha . Roo begins dating Frank Morgan and they start a band with Lance Smart and Martin Dibble . Roo's continued obsession with Ailsa drives a rift between her and Frank, despite nearly sleeping with him as an act of rebellion over Ailsa staying over.
Gemma attempts to apologise to John, and they end up talking about their families and Gemma's late husband. Gemma supports Nikau when Bella Nixon has a violent reaction to his romantic advances and self-harms. Ari's brother Tane turns up in the Bay and Gemma has to break up a fight between them. Tane later rents the family a house and Gemma secures a new job at Salt, after her shifts at the Diner are cut.

But then they are left reeling from some SURPRISE and unexpected news... Ziggy and Dean are delighted when they see their baby on the monitor for the first time. Ziggy cancelled their original hospital appointment after she was struck by the fear that the ultrasound will lead to the discovery that something is wrong with their unborn baby... Thankfully, good news comes later on from the transplant coordinator, who reveals that Roo is out of surgery and doing well, after which Alf reunites with her. Roo and Martha are later wheeled off to surgery after an understandably nervous Alf bids them goodbye.
Alf later discovers he has a daughter, Quinn Jackson, from a previous relationship, but she rejects her father. In 2000, Ailsa reveals she also has another child, conceived after she was raped by a prison guard. This child turns out to be Shauna Bradley, who already lives in Summer Bay. And while fear temporarily subsides when he suggests low blood pressure is to blame, a follow-up call leaves her 'shaken by what the doctor reveals' the publication reports. Roo, her dad Alf and family friends, Leah Patterson and Irene Roberts , have all been summoned to a mystery brunch with Marilyn out at a countryside manor.

Kearney noted that fans had been speculating about his departure ever since he dyed his hair blond and left Australia the previous month. After a rocky romance with Harvey Ryan, Roo finally got the big wedding she'd always wanted. And for a while, everything was fine, until Harvey went missing at sea. Roo gave birth to a baby girl, Martha, in the early days of Home and Away.
In the middle of her wedding, she reveals that Frank is not the father of her baby. Frank drives off in anger and swerves off the road to avoid Bobby and the car falls into a ditch, almost killing him. Amber comes to meet John Palmer, who is in need of home care following a stroke.
The Paratas remain the prime suspects in the robbery and a later carjacking. Gemma decides that it is time to spread Mikaere's ashes in New Zealand, and Ari, Tane and Nikau agree to come with her. At the airport, Gemma makes it through passport control, but Ari, Tane and Nikau are stopped. Tane calls Gemma and encourages her to go to New Zealand, as they will catch up with her, and Gemma leaves alone.
The production team felt that Roo’s pregnancy was “risqué” because Home and Away was aired in an early evening time-slot. She sympathises with Roo’s struggle, and the two women pack their bags for the journey. Just as they’re preparing to leave, Alf finally calls with an update. Despite her friendship with Clarke, Parker insists they have never discussed the recasting of Roo, even though it was decades apart. "I assumed she wouldn't want to go back to something she started with as she has grown way beyond the character." Revealing at the altar the child was not his, Roo jilted Frank and her lies were exposed.
Roo and Laura organise a ball at Sid's farm and Roo tries to make peace with Marilyn. Bianca is raped at the ball and Roo criticises Laura for selling tickets to the River Boys. Alf disapproves of Roo's relationship with Sid, as he is worried about how he will treat her. Roo and Marilyn eventually become friends again and Roo breaks up with Sid when she realises his family will always be a priority over her. Roo takes over the running of the Diner due to staff shortages and she starts dating Harvey Ryan , despite being warned not to by Romeo, Indi and Sid.
Amber finds Willow and asks her to meet up for a drink at Salt, having forgiven her and Dean. Amber leaves with Tane Parata and they spend the night together. Marco confronts Maggie and tells her that he just wanted to save the family business.
