Roo then goes to the city to meet Frank and tells him she wants to give their relationship another go. Frank and Roo marry, but they split by the time Frank returns to town. Roo later moves to New York, where she is joined for a time by both Martha and Duncan. In 2005, Roo has a near fatal car-accident and Alf and Morag fly to New York to be with her while she recovers. Daniel Kilkelly of Digital Spy said Marco has been in love with Ben's wife Maggie Astoni since he was a teenager. After witnessing an argument between Marco and Maggie, Ben assaulted his brother, who then reported him to the police and left him estranged from the family. Producers described Marco as "confident" and "smooth-talking". He runs the family business, but as he "doesn't always make the best decisions", it has suffered and Marco now needs money. On her return, Roo finds Alf has gone travelling and her aunt Morag has been placed in charge of the caravan park.

Martha and Alf continues to hang out and talk and when Martha was about to leave the Bay for good, Alf stops her, saying that if she leaves, she'll have another thing coming. Alf and Martha reconcile their relationship and went away for a couple of days. In 2020, Alf and Martha remarried and Martha moves back in Summer Bay with her husband and daughter. The ambulance officer brings Robbo to Northern Districts Hospital following a car crash. Alex Neilson tells her that the ED is closed, but the officer says they would have lost him if they took him elsewhere. Weeks later, the ambulance officer brings Colby Thorne in after he is stabbed in the leg.

James Edmunds returns to the Bay and offers Roo a job as a lecturer at the university. James and Roo try to get married quickly, but their wedding is stopped by Alf who thinks James lied about where he used to work. Roo later discovers James is already married with children, and has been lying to her all along. She calls off their engagement, but continues her relationship with him. After James confesses to Roo that he also lied to her about his parents being alive, she finally breaks up with him. Roo decides to take a break from the Bay and when she returns, she reveals that she has a new boyfriend, David Lee .
Roo initially tries to keep the relationship a secret due to the age gap between them, but Morag soon catches them together. Roo faints and is convinced by Morag that she is going through the menopause. James tells Roo that he does not want children and asks her to have an abortion, but she refuses and decides to the raise the child as a single parent. James's father David Mayvers offers Roo $250,000 with the condition that she or her child does not contact James. Nate and Tori Morgan find her and diagnose a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.

Clarke told David Brown of TV Week that everyone thinks she is making it up when she declares that she is in love, until her boyfriend arrives in the Bay. Clarke added "It's a very good storyline. I'll be able to tackle another teenage problem." She struggled to connect with Roo and could not face up to her condition, so she left. After seeking help and treatment, the guilt and fear stopped her from coming back, but she knew Roo would have a good life. Roo tells Martha that she gave Alf a hard time and had a daughter when she was sixteen, who she named after Martha. Kieran is Martha Stewart's estranged and "deeply troubled" son.
Owen says that they should start from the beginning and Roo can get to know the real him. Owen asks Roo how close she and Evan got and she replies that if they had known each other longer, they could have grown quite close romantically. Owen points out that Evan chose her to be with him at the end, so he must have trusted her. The following day, Owen asks Roo on a dinner date, which she accepts. When she returns home, Roo is shocked to learn Marilyn and Sid have broken up.
Gemma attempts to apologise to John, and they end up talking about their families and Gemma's late husband. Gemma supports Nikau when Bella Nixon has a violent reaction to his romantic advances and self-harms. Ari's brother Tane turns up in the Bay and Gemma has to break up a fight between them. Tane later rents the family a house and Gemma secures a new job at Salt, after her shifts at the Diner are cut.
Following the birth, Roo decides to have her daughter adopted out. This marked a temporary two-week departure for the character, as she goes to the city to make arrangements off-screen. For Roo's return, producers created "a new, glamorous and confident" look for her. Clarke said Roo is trying to be nice, but no one believes or trusts her, which Clarke thought was understandable given Roo's history. Clarke also revealed that the reason Roo is so accepting of Frank and Bobby's engagement is that she has a new love interest, whose identity was initially kept a secret.
Roo begins to resent her father's relationship with Ailsa Hogan out of loyalty to her late mother, Martha . Roo begins dating Frank Morgan and they start a band with Lance Smart and Martin Dibble . Roo's continued obsession with Ailsa drives a rift between her and Frank, despite nearly sleeping with him as an act of rebellion over Ailsa staying over.
Marco finds Ben at the Surf Club and tries to get him to have a drink with him, but Ben tells Marco that he has no brother and orders him to leave. Marco catches Ben at the beach the following morning and tries to reconcile, but Ben is adamant that they are done and tells him to go home. Maggie asks to meet Marco and threatens to tell his parents that he ran their business into the ground if he does not go. Before he leaves the Bay, Marco tells Ben that he wins, Maggie loves him and he should be a proper husband to her. Ari ParataNephewsNikau ParataTane Parata, played by Ethan Browne, made his first appearance on 10 February 2020. Browne's casting and character details were announced on 29 December 2019.
